The website of the South Carolina Education Lottery showed that one winning ticket was sold in the state.

Someone in SC has a winning ticket for a Mega Millions lottery prize of $1.6 billion. It's unclear whether there are jackpot winners in other states. They can take $828 million in a lump sum or receive the full $1.537 billion in annual installments over the next three decades.

The winning ticket was bought in SC, but the lucky victor has not yet been identified. Technically, the California Lottery was the first to announce any results on that night - as they often are. However, Mega Millions officials said the official jackpot was $1.537 billion, which comes up just shy of a world record.

In 2016, Forbes listed only one billionaire in South Carolina, InterTech Group CEO Anita Zucker. He told the newspaper he will split his part of the winnings with the four employees at the gas station. It's about as much as 20 per cent of the US$8-billion that state lawmakers have to spend each year.

The jackpot now resets at $40 million for the next drawing on Friday. "Take a deep breath and enjoy the moment!" the South Carolina Education Lottery tweeted. The state is one of seven that allows winners to keep their identities secret, ABC News reports.

While most states require the winner's identity to be made public, SC is one of eight states where they may choose to remain anonymous. Three people in SC also matched four out of five of the numbers plus the Mega ball.

No one in California won the big $1.6 billion Mega Millions jackpot - the largest in history.

In case you hadn't already guessed, the massive jackpot is the world's largest ever lottery grand prize. "Then, I figured I'd buy $10 worth of Powerball tickets, too", Jones said.

Powerball will hold its drawing Wednesday night for a jackpot estimated at $620 million or a cash value of $354.3 million.

The Arizona Lottery said Tuesday night the winning ticket was bout at a convenience store near Elliot and Dobson roads in Chandler.

Across the game's nine prize tiers, there were more than 15.7 million winning tickets in Tuesday's drawing.
