Apple just announced a brand new MacBook Air

31 Octobre 2018

Until now, the MacBook Air had not seen a major internal refresh since 2015.

Apple has introduced a new MacBook Air with a 13-inch Retina display, Touch ID, the latest processors and a more portable design. Prices start at $1,199, with preordering available today.

"The MacBook Air has become the most beloved notebook ever", said Apple CEO Tim Cook during an Apple event in New York City on October 30. With screen technology now upgraded, the popularity of the MacBook Air may get another boost, and might even hit the sale of the MacBook Pro laptops.

Apple finally updated one of its most-loved and most-neglected notebooks this morning.

The new MacBook Air comes with a sharper Retina display than the more traditional and lower resolution display on the current MacBook Air.

Like the iPad and newest MacBook Pros - as well as former iPhones - the MacBook Air now has Touch ID to provide a secure unlock to the laptop. Touch ID is now present up top - a great addition - though Apple opted not to include the Touch Bar. The T2 also features an SSD controller with on-the-fly data encryption for everything stored on the SSD.

For the most part, the MacBook Air 2018 is a better device than its three-year-old predecessor. Not only is it created to prevent MacBook Air users from getting malware but it also makes it physically impossible for hackers to access your microphone when you're most vulnerable. There's also a large and much-improved Force Touch trackpad. The laptop features high-fidelity Stereo speakers, which are 25 per cent louder compared to the previous version, and include three mic array to provide improved recognition of Siri.

Inside is a solid tech spec-set built around Intel's latest 8th-gen Core i5 processor, faster RAM (to 16GB) and a zippier solid state drive (to a capacious 1.5TB). That model features 8GB of memory and 128GB storage.

The new MacBook Air will come with two Thunderbolt 3 ports on the device so that users can connect eGPUs, external displays and other external devices including storage. It's the most versatile port ever. The device has two Thunderbird ports. It has the 13.3-inch display.

Given that this is the first time Apple has redesigned the MacBook Air in roughly eight years, all of the above changes are welcome updates to the classic design. The laptop also still includes a headphone jack, unlike the new 2018 iPad Pro.

And now it's time for the new MacBook Air, according to Cook, which takes the "MacBook Air experience even further" in regards to what customer want. Some thought the company would just fold the Air into the non-Pro MacBook model and be done with it. The new Stacks feature organizes messy desktops by automatically stacking files into neat groups. The native camera app comes with Animoji, Memoji and Group FaceTime features. It will make its debut in Apple retail stores starting on November 7.
