American Comic-Book Icon Stan Lee Dies At 95

15 Novembre 2018

Stan Lee, creator of some of comics books' most enduring characters and the former president of Marvel Comics, has died aged 95.

His daughter J.C. Lee said that Stan Lee felt an obligation to his fans to keep creating. "He loved his life and he loved what he did for a living".

Adding to his notable services, Lee was a frequent fan of cutting-edge technology that lead him to start an internet-based superhero studio in 1998 which, while short-lived, came well before online comic publishing hit the mainstream.

An attorney for Lee's daughter told CNN that the Marvel Comics legend was transported from his home in Los Angeles to Cedar's Sinai Medical Center on Monday morning. Lee and Kirby did away with that; Fantastic Four #1 was unlike any superhero comic of its time.

After writing romances and westerns, Lee was assigned to a new superhero team at Atlas and began pursuing his vision of the imperfect hero, prone to human vanity, frailty and other flaws. The characters are more popular if they wear costumes. "I went down and got them their lunch, I did proofreading, I erased the pencils from the finished pages for them". "I'm a little disappointed in my Black Panther cameo", Lee joked.

He had help in designing the superheroes but he took full ownership of promoting them.

In 1975, Marvel would go on create the first black female superhero, Storm of the X-Men.

Chris Evans, who played Captain America's Steve Rogers in six Marvel blockbuster films, said there would "never be another Stan Lee". That was probably a big letdown for many Marvel fans who have grown so used to seeing Lee's cameos in nearly all of the Marvel movies. I saw the first X-Men movie at a cinema at midnight in the summer of 2000, a movie theatre that wasn't even sure why anyone would want to see this weird movie so late on a Thursday night.

He disputed that. "I don't have $200mn". Stan Lee: I hate to make it sound un-intellectual, but to me, I think of these superheroes the way young people read fairy tales.

Having grown up in the Great Depression, Lee added that he was "happy enough to get a nice paycheck and be treated well".

Lee received a National Medal of Arts in 2008 "for his innovations that revolutionized American comic books".

His passing today marks a devastating and painful moment in time, but the legacy of Stan Lee, through his creative genius and his universes of characters, will continue to reach the world of true believers for generations to come. Lee became Marvel's publisher in 1972.

After Lee's death, a column he wrote in December 1968, after the assassination of Martin Luther King, is going viral.

He also suffered tragedy when his second child Jan died three days after delivery in 1953.

Lee had help in designing the superheroes but he took full ownership of promoting them.

Then I got a job actually working in comics journalism, a career path that I stayed on for nearly a decade. Many movies have been created and others are in the works using his famed heroes. Entertainment and focused on working as a writer and executive producer for film and television productions of Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Fantastic Four and other creations. There was stretchable "Mr Fantastic, ' his future wife 'Invisible Woman, ' her brother the 'Human Torch" and strongman 'The Thing.' They were like a devoted but dysfunctional family.

Stan Lee is responsible for the heroes that have dominated all of our childhoods.

"As iconic as Superman may be, he's considered a Boy Scout".
