As appropriately as possible, King asked the girls if their relationship with R. Kelly was a "three-way" thing or if they both have individual relationships with him. "And then I was told, he wants to speak with you because he is outraged by people making assumptions about whether it happened or not".
Although the women were defiant in their defense of their intimate relationship with a man old enough to be their father, they came across as two more of Kelly's victims.
In the King interview, both Clary and Savage denied having sex with Kelly when they were underage.
In their joint interview with King, the two women said they're both in a "strong relationship" with the singer.
Clary and Savage were also interviewed and a portion of that aired on Wednesday, showing a very emotional Clary expressing criticism.
"I could see him getting more heated", she said. Trying to get money. I don't know what to do. "Especially, my dad, he's the master of this whole situation", Joycelyn said. "Our parents are just out here to get money", Savage said. I was doing my show.
It's hard to imagine the highly subjective counter-narrative Kelly, Clary and Savage put forth this week destroying the momentum Surviving R. Kelly and the reams of investigative reporting that preceded it have built up-and I realize that Kelly is pretty much the worst possible advocate for himself at this point. They have never demanded money from R. Kelly. What time is the R. Kelly interview special? Now, when you see the people come out, and they're talking the way that they're talking, you can't unhear that. "Trust the process.' How can you tell another father to trust the process, but you rappin" and ravin' on TV that you wanna see your kids, but you won't allow me to see my own daughter? "He was upset with me about some of the questions, that's ok, he was a little irritated, that's ok". This is also true of Joycelyn Savage's family, who also say they haven't spoken to their daughter in person in years. "They have not received a dollar or a penny from R. Kelly", Avenatti said. If that happens, King hopes that CBS will have room in the budget to meet her salary demands.
"Okay, so when I first met Robert, my parents told me to lie about my age". And she calls with a... script. 'Momma, I told you I'm happy.
Reports surrounding this interview, and releases like this image, indicate that Kelly is drowning, panicking over his impending legal troubles. Kelly was recently hit with 10 charges of sexual abuse and is facing up to 70 years in prison.
"To hear my daughter discredit us and talk so blunt about us that we would sell her - first of all videotape her, that's like - I don't even know where she got that from", he said. Joycelyn's mother admitted that she made the mistake of "separating the man from the artist".
